What are debt securities?

All companies require money to run their operations. A part of the required money is generated internally or through equity listing on the stock exchanges, while some is borrowed. A debt security is basically this borrowed money that is taken by one company (borrower) from another (lender). The borrower has to pay interest to the holder periodically and the principal at the end of the term.
